MLB 2K12 Cover Will Feature Tigers' Justin Verlander

Justin Verlander, likely to be the 2011 American League Cy Young Award winner, has been chosen as the cover athlete for MLB 2K12.

Around 4 p.m. this afternoon, Justin Verlander teased on his Twitter account that he was making a big announcement tonight. I was hoping he was going to say that he and Joel Zumaya were going to whip out their Guitar Heros and headline the halftime show of the Thanksgiving Day Game, replacing Nickelback.

As it turned out, that wasn't it (unfortunately). The announcement was still pretty cool, though:

Before the MLB 2K10 game was released Verlander -- likely this year's AL Cy Young winner -- was heavily involved in marketing the game by getting to know Justin Morneau pretty well. Evan Longoria graced the cover of that game. Roy Halladay, the 2010 NL Cy Young winner, was on the MLB 2k11 cover.

If I may, I'd like to guess that this picture, which hangs above my desk, as the favorite for the 2K12 cover. We'll have updates on this and other game features as soon as they become available.
