The Detroit Tigers announced yesterday that they will be traveling about 45 minutes south to Toledo for an exhibition game against their Triple-A affiliate. The game at Fifth Third Field will be at noon on Wednesday, April 4. Opening Day is April 5 vs. the Boston Red Sox.
"We have a tremendous, longstanding relationship with the Toledo Mud Hens," Tigers general manager Dave Dombrowski said in a released statement. "This exhibition game gives Mud Hens fans an opportunity to see the Tigers at Fifth Third Field, which is one of the finest ballparks in all of minor league baseball."
All proceeds from the game will be split between the Detroit Tigers Foundation and the Helping Hens Charitable Fund.
The Tigers haven't played their minor league squad since June 1, 2000 when they played in Maumee, Ohio between a regular season series against Texas in Detroit and one against the Chicago Cubs at Wrigley Field.
