Tigers Spring Training Schedule Begins With 17-5 Win Over Florida Southern

The first game on the Tigers spring training schedule ended up being a 17-5 victory over Florida Southern for Detroit. The matchup was only an exhibition game, but it was the first time the Tigers hit the field to play another team this spring. It served as a warm-up game before they play the Toronto Blue Jays on Saturday.

The Tigers scored in all but one inning during this game. All five of Florida Southern's runs came in the ninth inning, as Lester Oliveros got beat up a bit.

Andy Oliver got the win for the Tigers, pitching two innings. He allowed two hits and struck out three batters. Jacob Turner came in later in the game to get the hold for the Tigers, also pitching two innings. Daniel Schlereth, Ryan Perry and Enrique Gonzalez were the other pitchers that got into the game for the Tigers.

Detroit's runs came from a variety of players. Austin Jackson, Clete Thomas, Will Rhymes, Avisail Garcia, Cale Iorg, Argenis Diaz, Casper Wells, Andy Ciriaco and Bryan Holaday all had one RBI. Ben Guez and Ramon Santiago each had two RBI, and Brennan Boesch had three RBI (one of which came from a home run in the third inning).
