The Tigers survived a rain delay and finished off the Minnesota Twins 10-2 in the opener of a two game set in Minneapolis.
Jhonny Peralta belted a two-run home run in the second inning and Victor Martinez hit a bases-loaded single an inning later to score two runs for the Tigers and build an early 4-0 lead. Brian Duensing then walked Scott Sizemore with the bases loaded in the top of the fourth to push the lead to 5-0.
Then Mother Nature took over.
Play was stopped for over an hour due to severe weather in the area. When play resumed, the Tigers kept hitting.
Martinez doubled home Miguel Cabrera in the fifth inning and Brennan Boesch drove in two runs with an RBI single in the seventh inning to seal the deal for the Tigers. They would tack on two more insurance runs in the eighth inning for the final run total.
Rick Porcello pitched five innings and came back out despite the rain delay and picked up the win. Porcello (3-2) gave up one run on three hits.
Fransisco Liriano reverted back to his early season form in his first start since no-hitting the White Sox last week. Liriano (2-5) lasted just three innings and gave up four runs on three hits while walking three batters.
