What Do The 2011 Tigers And 1987 Tigers Have In Common After 47 Games?

Thanks to last night's 6-3 win over the Tampa Bay Rays, the Tigers went a game over .500 and sit at 24-23 after 47 games this season. Interestingly enough, it's the first time the Tigers have been 24-23 after 47 games since the 1987 season, when an 11-3 loss to the Twins on May 31 put the '87 Tigers at the identical 24-23 mark.

As I'm sure you all know, the 1987 Tigers went on to win the AL East, thanks to overcoming a 3.5 game deficit in the final week of the season. If this season plays out anything like that one, we're in for a real crackerjack finish.

Of course, it'll come at a price, as the Tigers will have to inevitably trade away a young arm who will go on to have a lengthy Hall of Fame career. Could it be Charlie Furbush? Jacob Turner? Will that be worth it to simply have a chance at a World Series and ultimately lose in the ALCS in a shocking five games? I don't know, but I'm curious to see how it exactly plays out.
