Outfielder Magglio Ordonez completed his rehab assignment with the Toledo Mud Hens over the weekend. On Monday, he was reinstated from the disabled list.
Ordonez will play in right field for the Detroit Tigers as they take on the Tampa Bay Rays on Monday night. He will bat sixth for Detroit in what is his first game with the team since May 10. His spot in the lineup is right behind Victor Martinez and ahead of Jhonny Peralta.
With Ordonez returning from the DL, the Tigers outrighted the contract of pitcher Enrique Gonzalez to Toledo. Since catcher Omir Santos was sent down when Phil Coke came off the DL, the Tigers had an extra pitcher on the roster. To get their roster back to normal, Gonzalez was sent packing to make room for Ordonez.
When he went on the DL, Ordonez was only hitting .172 and had all of one home run and five RBI. The hope is he will play much better now that he's healthier, giving the Tigers a spark in the bottom half of their lineup. The Tigers certainly haven't struggled without Ordonez, so getting an improved Magglio back would be a very nice addition going forward.
