Brad Penny Can't Last Four Innings, Tigers Fall To Cleveland

Detroit, MI (Sports Network) – Shin-Soo Choo touched home three times and finished 2-for-4, as the Cleveland Indians pulled back into a virtual tie for first in the Central Division with a 6-4 win over the Detroit Tigers at Comerica Park.

Matt LaPorta and Orlando Cabrera each drove in a pair of runs for the Indians, who recorded just their third win in 13 games.

Cleveland starter Fausto Carmona (4-8) posted his first win in seven starts, allowing four runs — two earned — on seven hits over five innings.

Brennan Boesch had a solo home run and finished with two RBI for the Tigers, who had taken over sole possession of first place in the division for the first time since last July with a 4-0 win in the opener of the three-game series. However, Thursday’s game will now decide the series and who takes over first place in the Central for the time being.

Alex Avila went 2-for-2 with two walks and two RBI in the losing effort, while Charlie Furbush (1-1) was charged for the loss after giving up a run on three hits in 1 2/3 innings of relief.
