Max Scherzer Eyes 10th Win, Miguel Cabrera Gets Day Off

Tigers starter Max Scherzer will go for his American League-leading 10th win tonight in Los Angeles as the Tigers look to bounce back against the Dodgers.

Detroit got dominated in a two-hit masterpiece from Dodgers ace Clayton Kershaw in a 4-0 loss on Monday night. The former Great Lakes Loon (Midwest League) pitched a complete game to improve to 7-3 while also driving in two runs at the plate. Brad Penny picked up the loss to drop his record to below .500 (5-6) despite giving up just two runs.

With the designated hitter out of play in the National League park, Miguel Cabrera will get his first day off this season to allow Victor Martinez to play first base. The move will also get catcher Alex Avila’s bat back into the lineup, as he was forced to sit last night while Martinez caught. Brennan Boesch takes over for Magglio Ordonez in right field, who went 0-for-3 last night and is just 3-for-17 since returning from the disabled list.

Among the more interesting lineup moves: Ryan Raburn will bat seventh with Andy Dirks, not Avila, behind Martinez in fifth. Okay, Leyland…

Tigers lineup:
1. Austin Jackson CF
2. Don Kelly 3b
3. Brennan Boesch RF
4. Victor Martinez 1b
5. Andy Dirks LF
6. Alex Avila C
7. Ryan Raburn 2b
8. Ramon Santiago SS
9. Max Scherzer, pitching (9-3, 4.32 ERA)

Pitching for Los Angeles will be Chad Billingsley (5-6, 4.65 ERA)
