Motown Sports started a Justin Verlander Triple Crown of Pitching watch, as JV leads two of the three categories and trails Jered Weaver by only a hair in the other. A Detroit Tigers pitcher has won the Triple Crown just once when Hal Newhouser did it in 1945. The feat has only been done 15 times total by just nine different pitchers, starting with Cy Young in 1901. If Verlander accomplishes it this season, he'll be the first to do it since Johan Santana did it for the Twins in 2006. For what it's worth, Santana won the Cy Young that year, but finished 7th in the MVP voting (the year Verlander finished 7th and 15th, respectively).
