Justin Verlander Shares AL Player Of The Week With Bush Leaguer

Your 2011 AL Cy Young winner (to be) Justin Verlander was named the American League Player of the Week for September 12 through September 18. Unfortunately, he has to share the award with Los Angeles Angels shortstop Erick Aybar.

Verlander threw 15 yawn-inducing, shutout innings last week, striking out 12 opposite five walks and winning both games -- his 11th and 12th straight wins. Verlander is now 24-5 on the season with a 2.29 ERA and 244 strikeouts in as many innings. He leads the pitching Triple Crown categories and he will win the Cy Young. It's possible he comes away with the Most Valuable Player award, as well.

As for Aybar, who sort of pissed off Verlander by bunting to attempt to break up a no-hitter on July 31, hit .444/.520/1.565 with four doubles, three homers, five runs batted in, and eight runs scored. I don't think he felt the need to do any bunting.
