MLB Playoffs: Tigers Announce Roster For Yankees Series

As soon as the Detroit Tigers wrapped up a spot in the 2011 MLB playoffs, speculation began about what their roster would look like for the ALDS. Speculation heated up this week once it was confirmed that the Tigers would take on the Yankees, but the playoff roster was only turned in and announced on Friday morning. Here's the rundown:

Pitchers

Justin Verlander, Doug Fister, Max Scherzer, Rick Porcello, Brad Penny, Phil Coke, Daniel Schlereth, Ryan Perry, Al Alburquerque, Joaquin Benoit, Jose Valverde

Catchers

Alex Avila, Victor Martinez, Omir Santos

Infielders

Miguel Cabrera, Ramon Santiago, Jhonny Peralta, Wilson Betemit, Brandon Inge

Outfielders

Delmon Young, Austin Jackson, Ryan Raburn, Magglio Ordonez, Andy Dirks, Don Kelly

The thing that stands out to me is that Santos and Penny both made the roster. Santos edged out guys like Danny Worth and Will Rhymes for the final positional player spot. Penny was selected over David Pauley and Duane Below despite not being in the rotation for this series.

If the Tigers advance to the ALCS, they can make changes to their playoff roster before beginning the next series.
