Just like when the Detroit Tigers and New York Yankees met in the postseason in 2006, weather is becoming a factor in the 2011 ALDS between the two teams. Game 1 was postponed on Friday night after an inning and a half of action due to heavy rain that showed no signs of letting up. The chances of getting the game in were slim, so the decision was made by Major League Baseball to postpone it until Saturday night.
Because of the rules for postponements in the playoffs, Game 1 will resume at 8:37 p.m. on Saturday night. What happened on Friday night will count, so none of the action is being washed away completely.
With Game 1 moving to Saturday, Game 2 has been moved to Sunday at 3:07 p.m. Originally Sunday was set to be an off day for the Tigers and Yankees, but that won't be happening with Game 2 now scheduled for that day.
Here's a look at the updated Tigers-Yankees schedule:
Resumption of Game 1 - Saturday, Oct. 1, 8:37 p.m. (TBS)
Game 2 - Tigers at Yankees - Sunday, Oct. 2, 8:37 p.m. (TNT)
Game 3 - Yankees at Tigers - Monday, Oct. 3, 8:37 p.m. (TBS)
*Game 4 - Yankees at Tigers - Tuesday, Oct. 4, TBD (TBS)
*Game 5 - Tigers at Yankees - Thursday, Oct. 6, TBD (TBS)
*If necessary
It looks like there could be more rain in the Bronx on Saturday, so if Game 1 is pushed back again, things will really get tricky schedule-wise. Hopefully it holds off and Game 1 is able to be completed.
UPDATE: Sunday's game will be broadcast on TNT.
