More: On Cabrera's Eye Injury
There's no word yet on just how many stitches it's going to require, but smart money is on Miguel Cabrera needing quite a few of them to patch up that gash under his right eye. Jason Beck is reporting via Twitter that Cabrera is receiving stitches and undergoing precautionary x-rays to determine the extent of the damage.
It will be awhile before anything is known regarding how much time he'll miss, if any, but it did look pretty gruesome and it's possible the team will take a "better safe than sorry" approach, even if there's no bone damage or things of that nature. Cabrera was playing third base, where many still think he's an odd fit, when a one-hopper bounced up and hit him in the face. The injury was sustained in a game against the Philadelphia Phillies.
He bled an awful lot before walking off the field and taken into the locker room. "An awful lot" really doesn't do it justice, because he was definitely leaking - something you can see for yourself in many pictures and videos circulating at this time.
