Miguel Cabrera Injury Update: Tigers 3B Could Be Cleared To Return To Action This Week

Detroit Tigers third baseman Miguel Cabrera continues recovering from a broken bone under his right eye but if he receives a favorable report from the medical staff on Tuesday, Cabrera could return to play later this week.

According to a report from John Lowe of the Detroit Free Press, the Tigers expect Cabrera to be able to begin playing again two days after gaining clearance to return to the field. If all goes well this week, that could give the Tigers a boost to start the season.

"If we get medical clearance, he'll be in the lineup Opening Day," the manager said Saturday. "If they want to sit on this another week, that's different."

Even if Cabrera needs to sit for another week, he won't miss much if any of the regular season. The Tigers play the Boston Red Sox on Opening Day a week from Thursday then have a day off before beginning the regular season grind in earnest on the following Saturday.
