Tigers Spring Training: Detroit Options Top Prospect Jacob Turner To Triple-A

The Detroit Tigers are getting set for Opening Day, though that doesn't include having top prospect Jacob Turner on the active roster. Jason Beck is reporting on MLB.com that the Tigers have optioned Turner to Triple-A Toledo on Monday as part of a group of roster moves to bring the Spring Training total to 32 players.

Many thought Turner would be able to make his way onto the roster, impressing in multiple outings with very strong pitching (albeit with questionable command), but injuries have throttled his progress. It's been two weeks since he's faced any hitters, and though he's going to return soon, it's not likely he'll get his "rehab start" against Major League competition.

On top of sending Turner to Triple-A, the Tigers also sent outfielder Quintin Berry to Minor League camp. Berry did have an outside shot at making the roster, and should be a candidate throughout the season if injuries arise. On top of that, pitcher Chris Bootcheck, infielders Argenis Diaz and Audy Ciriaco and first baseman Ryan Strieby were also sent to Minor League camp along with Berry.
