The Tigers brought a merry-go-round back from Disney for their Spring Training home opener against the Atlanta Braves on Sunday. Detroit homered not once, not twice, not thrice, not, uh, eight times, but nine (!!) times en route to an 18-3 rout and a 2-0 record in the early going of the Grapefruit League.
Rather than listing off every Tiger who hit a home run, here's how their HR column looked in the box score:
Brennan Boesch, Ryan Raburn and Brandon Inge had two hits apiece. Inge doubled in both of his at bats after coming on for Raburn in the later innings, not ready to lose any ground early in the battle for second base after Raburn and Worth both hit bombs.
The Tigers' pitching staff allowed nine hits after allowing just one on Saturday. Max Scherzer and Duane Below each threw two scoreless, and Jose Valverde, Octavio Dotel, Darin Downs and Matt Hoffman each threw a scoreless frame.
Atlanta will return to Lakeland on Wednesday, but Detroit will play Toronto on Monday and Miami on Tuesday first.
