Tigers Spring Training 2012: Detroit Beats Up Rays, 8-1

The Detroit Tigers ran their record to an MLB best and meaningless 6-0 this Spring Training, making easy work of the Tampa Bay Rays. The Tigers scored three in the third, another three in the sixth and two in the eighth, all on 15 hits. Doug Fister, who threw three scoreless innings, picked up the win.

Miguel Cabrera had three hits and an RBI. He also scored a run on Delmon Young's three-run bomb in the third inning. Ramon Santiago had three hits, too, and Ryan Strieby slapped two hits.

Duane Below, a candidate to be the No. 5 starter, gave up a run on two hits in his only inning of work in relief of Fister. Jose Ortega, Phil Coke, Darin Downs, Chris Bootcheck, and Robbie Weinhardt each threw a scoreless inning.

The Tigers are back at it again tomorrow, back in Lakeland, against the Philadelphia Phillies.
