Detroit Tigers' Miguel Cabrera Named AL Player Of The Week

The Detroit Tigers swept the Boston Red Sox in the first week of the MLB season and Miguel Cabrera was named American League Player of the Week.

Cabrera continued his hot hitting from the spring season in which he hit almost .500. In the three-game sweep of Boston, Cabrera hit .455 (5-for-11) with three home runs and eight RBI.

Cabrera has been named the Player of the Week nine times in his career, including five times with the Tigers.

Cabrera hit a dramatic three-run home run in the bottom of the ninth inning Sunday to tie the game at 10-10 and send it into extra innings. He singled and scored in the 11th inning before Alex Avila hit a two-run home run to give the Tigers a 13-12 victory and their first 3-0 start since 2006.
