Tigers Vs. White Sox: Detroit Tries To Avoid Sweep In Chicago

The Detroit Tigers are looking to avoid a sweep and an early statement from their division rival when they wrap up a weekend series with the Chicago White Sox on Sunday afternoon.

The Tigers and White Sox can expect to keep an eye on one another throughout the Major League Baseball regular season as they battle in the American League Central Division. The White Sox jumped a half stride ahead of the Tigers by winning the first two games of the weekend series in Chicago, when Gavin Floyd shut down the Detroit offense as the Tigers were unable to provide Adam Wilk with any run support after a solid season debut on the mound.

Detroit will call on right-hander Rick Porcello change the Tigers' fortunes so they can leave Chi-town with a win. Porcello threw seven strong innings in his first start, giving up just two runs in a tough-luck no decision. Chicago will counter with young left-hander Chris Sale who was quite sharp his first start, as well earning the win in his first big league start by pitching into the seventh inning and giving up just one run and three hits.

The game is scheduled to start at 2:10 p.m. ET and will be televised on Fox Sports Detroit.
