The big story for the Detroit Tigers during the offseason was the addition of big hitter Prince Fielder, but it's been the pitching that has led them to two straight wins over the Kansas City Royals in their three game series. Ace Justin Verlander pitched a great game in the first, a 3-2 victory. In Tuesday's 3-1 win, Drew Smyly allowed only one run in six innings as well.
Matt Scherzer, taking the mound for Detroit, will need to avoid an outing like his last two if he wants to keep that train of good pitching rolling. His 10.38 ERA and one loss are from a seven run performance in two and two thirds innings in his first game and a three run in six inning performance against the White Sox his last time out. He has been a master of strikeouts, with 14 on the young season.
He will face former San Francisco lefty Jonathan Sanchez, who has a win but mediocre stats otherwise.
Kansas City has lost six straight games including the two in this series.
The game will be at Kauffman Stadium at
