2012 Tigers Spring Training, Grapefruit League Standings

The Detroit Tigers lost, 11-8, Monday against the Toronto Blue Jays at Joker Marchant Stadium in Lakeland, Fla., falling to 20-7 in Grapefruit League play.

Drew Smyly, 22, started on Monday for Detroit in his first start since being named the fifth pitcher in the rotation. He took a shutout into the fifth inning before surrendering four runs in the inning. Smyly struck out four and walked two in five and 1/3 innings.

The Tigers are in second place, behind only the 23-7 Toronto Blue Jays. Detroit finishes up Grapefruit play on Tuesday with another game with the Blue Jays.

The Tigers host the Boston Red Sox on Opening Day on Thursday. Justin Verlander will take the mound for Detroit, while Jon Lester earned the start for Boston.
