The Tigers lost their Grapefruit League finale to the Toronto Blue Jays, 13-8, on Tuesday afternoon. The Tigers finished 2.5 games back of the Blue Jays in the standings with a record of 20-8 (with some ties).
Max Scherzer, getting his work in before the regular season begins on Thursday in Detroit, got lit up for 11 hits and nine runs (seven earned) in 4.1 innings. The Tigers' hitters banged out 13 hits and scored eight runs in their final tune up.
Of course, the biggest story for the Tigers is the injury to reliever Luis Marte, who left the game with a hamstring injury and was subsequently placed on the 15-day disabled list. Marte is being replaced on the roster by Duane Below, who was once a candidate to be the No. 5 starter but was ultimately won by 22-year-old lefty Drew Smyly.
