The Detroit Tigers resume their home series with the Boston Red Sox on Saturday afternoon after a wild and exciting 3-2 win in the opener on Thursday.

Jose Valverde was not able to save a strong opening outing by ace Justin Verlander , giving up two ninth inning runs to blow the save and shutout. But Valverde's teammates picked him up in the bottom of the ninth as Austin Jackson knocked in the game-winner to give Valverde the win.

On Saturday, the Tigers will send big right-hander Doug Fister to the mound against Boston's right-handed Josh Beckett. Fister finished the season strong with an 8-1 record in 11 appearances for the Tigers after coming over from the Seattle Mariners during the season. Beckett is coming off a disappointing 13-7 season for the Red Sox as he hopes to get off to a good start to the season and remain healthy.

The game will start at 4:05 p.m. ET and will be televised on Fox.
