The Detroit Tigers (19-21) once again failed to win consecutive games after losing 4-3 to Pittsburgh Pirates (18-21) on Saturday after Pirates center fielder Andrew McCutchen tagged Tigers pitcher Drew Smyly with a pair of home runs to drive in all four runs for Pittsburgh.
After splitting the first two games of the weekend interleague series, the two teams will meet again Sunday afternoon to complete the series. Detroit will send Max Scherzer to the mound in an effort to outright win just their second series so far in May. The right-handed Scherzer is 2-3 on the year with a 6.26 ERA in eight starts.
Pittsburgh will counter with right-hander Kevin Correia on the hill. In seven starts this season, Correia is 1-4 with a 4.50 ERA.
Detroit slipped to third place in the AL Central Division standings, now four games behind the division-leading Cleveland Indians and a half game behind the Chicago White Sox.
The game is scheduled to start at 1:05 p.m. ET and will be televised Fox Sports Detroit.
