Tigers Vs. Indians Score Update: Alex Avila's 3-Run HR Has Detroit Up Early

The Tigers are in Cleveland taking on the Indians for the first time this season. The Indians currently have a three-game lead on the Tigers in the Central Division, so this could definitely be construed as a big series, even if it's still only May.

Tonight, Rick Porcello is working against Ubaldo Jimenez, who the Indians acquired at the trade deadline last year as a last-ditched effort to compete against the Tigers in the Central. Through three and half innings, the Tigers have struck for three runs against Jimenez, all on a three-run home run by Alex Avila [GIF via Walkoff Woodward]:

It was a much needed home run for Avila, who has just one in 16 games in the month of May and a hitting line of .222/.295/.628. It was his fifth home run of the season.

The Indians have two runs off Porcello, an RBI double from Asdrubal Cabrera and an RBI single from Travis Hafner in the third.
