After missing nearly two months of the regular season with a hamstring strain, relief pitcher Luis Marte will be activated from the disabled list by the Detroit Tigers on Friday. Heading down to the minor leagues to make room for Marte will be fellow reliever Luke Putkonen.
Marte made his major league debut for Detroit last year and pitched in four games. He allowed just one run and struck out three batters in three-and-two-thirds innings.
While Putkonen was on the roster, he allowed seven runs in six appearances. At 26 years old, Putkonen made his major league debut this year.
The Tigers bullpen will include Marte for this weekend's three-game series against the Minnesota Twins. The relievers should be well rested after Justin Verlander threw a complete game on Thursday.
