Due in a New York court on Tuesday to face a misdemeanor aggravated harassment charge, troubled Detroit Tigers outfielder Delmon Young might not be able to suit up for Tuesday's game two with the Boston Red Sox at Fenway Park.
Despite the relative proximity of New York and Boston, it's unclear how long Young's arraignment will take, and Tigers general manager Dave Dombrowski doesn't sound optimistic about having his usual designated hitter in the lineup. "We are not sure," Dombrowski told MLive.com via text message on Sunday morning. "It depends upon how long the hearing takes and the flight schedule. We are hopeful that he will not miss the game."
Young is hitting .252 with a pair of home runs and 15 RBI through 40 games with Detroit this season, a year after producing a .274/8/32 line in a 40-game stint in Motown last summer. He appears to have settled into the day-to-day designated hitter position with Victor Martinez still months away from returning, but nonetheless, it's never a good thing when legal troubles of any kind prevent a professional athlete from getting on the field.
