The Detroit Tigers are going for a series victory in game three against the Seattle Mariners, coming off a big 6-4 win on Tuesday. The Tigers did lose game one of the series by a score of 3-2, and are hoping to get the series win after being swept by Seattle over an earlier three-game set at the end of April. Detroit lost those games 7-4, 5-4 and 9-1.
Rookie Drew Smyly will be on the mound for the Tigers, looking to build on his strong start to the season, though he's just 1-0 at this point. Still, that 1-0 is backed by a 1.61 earned run average, though he did allow two runs in his last start against the Chicago White Sox, in which he pitched six innings. He was handed a no decision for his efforts.
He'll be up against the Mariners' Jason Vargas, who is 3-2 on the season with a 3.09 ERA. His last outing was also a no decision, against the Minnesota Twins in which he went 6.1 innings and gave up an earned run. He's allowed two runs and eight hits over 13 1/3 innings, with a 1-0 record at home. Vargas bested the Tigers on April 24, though he gave up four runs over six innings.
The game is set for 10:10 p.m. eastern.
