The Detroit Tigers hadn't won two-games straight since they won three-straight against the Minnesota Twins between May 25 and May 27. Then they took games two and three against the CIncinnati Reds in their most recent series and were looking for a third, but had those hopes crushed when the Chicago Cubs jumped ahead in game one of their three-game set to steal the 4-3 win.
It was a tie game at 3-3 when Darwin Barney was able to score on a throwing error by shortstop Jhonny Peralta in the eighth inning. Scoreless eighth and ninth innings sealed the deal and snapped the Tigers' winning streak.
Now, the Tigers will hope to get back in the win column when they send Rick Porcello to the mound. He's got a losing record though and is 3-4 on the season with a paltry 5.03 earned-run average. His last outing was a no-decision on June 8 against the Reds. He pitched five innings and allowed four runs in the outing.
His counter will be Matt Garza, who is 2-4 on the season. He's coming off a no-decision of his own, but his was a better outing. Garza lasted six innings in Milwaukee on June 7 and allowed just two runs and has a 3.99 ERA on the season.
The game is set for 8:05 p.m. Eastern.
