The 25-year-old Avila has missed Detroit's last 10 games while on the disabled list, and watched firsthand while a handful of reserve catchers were shuffled into the lineup to make due in his absence. Though the organization will be wary to avoid rushing a valuable commodity like an All-Star catcher back into action, Avila is still hopeful that he can return to the lineup on Thursday.
