Jacob Turner, who was just recalled from Triple-A, will start Thursday when the Detroit Tigers and St. Louis Cardinals square off in an afternoon rubber match.
Turner, who was a candidate for the No. 5 spot in the rotation during the spring, has yet to make a major-league start this year. But with Drew Smyly relegated to the disabled list with a blister, Turner will get the spot start Thursday.
Turner, a righty, had a 2-1 record and 3.43 ERA with Toledo. He made three starts last season for the Tigers, going 0-1 with an 8.53 ERA. In those three starts, he pitched 12.2 innings and gave up 12 runs.
The Cardinals starter will be Kyle Lohse, who is 6-2 with a 2.98 ERA.
The Tigers are currently 3.0 games back of the AL Central-leading Cleveland Indians and 2.5 games back of the Chicago White Sox.
First pitch Thursday is scheduled for 1:05 p.m. ET.
