Detroit Tigers catcher Bryan Holaday will be optioned to Triple-A Toledo to open up a spot for catcher Alex Avila, according to Tigers media relations director Brian Britten:

Avila had been on the DL since June 6 with a right hamstring strain. He had three rehab appearances with Toledo, going 3 for 7 with a walk and three strikeouts.
Holaday debuted on June 6, the same day Avila went to the DL.
It was unclear whether Holaday would be optioned or Gerald Laird, who strained him hamstring in Wednesday's game, would be sent to the DL. Laird's injury apparently doesn't warrant a trip to the DL, which means Holaday is heading for Toledo.
After Wednesday's game, the Tigers optioned Luke Putkonen to Toledo to make room for Jacob Turner, who will make the spot start Thursday against the Cardinals.
