Tigers Vs. Pirates: Detroit Tries To Avoid Sweep In Sunday's Finale

Already off to a rough start to begin their massive road trip, Jim Leyland's Detroit Tigers will lean on starter Justin Verlander in their bid to avoid a sweep by the Pirates on Sunday.

The 7-4 Verlander has reeled off 15 consecutive starts of a least 6.0 innings to begin the season, and will look to get the better of a Pittsburgh lineup that already has racked up 17 hits against Detroit pitching in the series. Verlander was nearly unhittable against the Pirates back on May 19 with a one-hit complete game shutout where he fanned 12 batters, and it's likely that Pittsburgh will do everything in its power to present a challenge for him this time around.

The Pirates will send 31-year-old right-hander Kevin Correia to the hill to oppose Verlander in the finale. After dropping five consecutive starts earlier in the year, Correia has settled down as of late and enters on a moderate hot streak after holding the Twins scoreless through 5.1 innings on June 19.

Sunday's finale will get underway at PNC Park at 1:35 p.m. ET.
