Tigers Vs. Rays: Detroit Turns To Drew Smyly In Series Finale

The ball could be flying at Tropicana Field Sunday afternoon, as two struggling young pitchers, Alex Cobb and Drew Smyly, face off with the Tigers looking to take three of four from the Rays.

Smyly (2-3, 4.48 ERA) has gone seven consecutive starts without posting a quality start, though he looked solid in his return from the disabled list (blisters) Tuesday in Texas, despite getting unlucky on numerous occasions.

Rays lefty Alex Cobb (3-4, 4.73 ERA) hasn't fared much better. He somehow tossed an eight-inning complete-game Monday on 113 pitches but allowed eight runs on 13 hits. Cobb is pitching at home, however, where he's posted a 3.86 ERA, as opposed to a 5.85 ERA in road starts.

In the first three games of this series, Tigers center fielder Austin Jackson is 7-for-18 and blasted a three-run homer Saturday.

First pitch is set for 1:40 p.m. ET in Tampa Bay and will be televised on Fox Sports Detroit.
