Tigers Vs. Angels: Jacob Turner Gets The Start Tuesday

The Detroit Tigers will start Jacob Turner on Tuesday in Game 2 of a four-game series with the Los Angeles Angels.

Turner, the No. 9 overall pick in 2009, has had one start this season, back on June 21. He gave up just one run in 5.0 innings, but kept things interesting by walking five batters. He is 4-2 in 10 Triple-A starts with a 3.16 ERA and 40 strikeouts in 62.2 innings. Turner had a shutout in his last outing.

The Tigers, who cleared a roster spot for Turner by sending Luis Marte to Triple-A following Monday's 8-6 win, are in need of a starter after Drew Smyly's return to the disabled list.

The Tigers have won eight of their last nine games and have leapfrogged the Cleveland Indians in the AL Central standings. Detroit is now 2.5 games back of the division-leading Chicago White Sox.
