Tigers Vs. Orioles Starting Lineups: Alex Avila Gets Day Off On Sunday

The Detroit Tigers are sitting starting catcher Alex Avila as they face the Baltimore Orioles on Sunday afternoon. It doesn't appear that Avila is injured in any way, so manager Jim Leyland is just giving him a standard day off as baseball enters the stretch run.

With Avila out, Gerald Laird is getting the nod behind the plate with Doug Fister taking the mound. Other than Avila, the only other change to the lineup for Sunday is in left field, where Quintin Berry is taking over for Andy Dirks.

Detroit's lineup:

1. Austin Jackson (R) CF
2. Omar Infante (R) 2B
3. Miguel Cabrera (R) 3B
4. Prince Fielder (L) 1B
5. Jhonny Peralta (R) SS
6. Delmon Young (R) DH
7. Jeff Baker (R) RF
8. Gerald Laird (R) C
9. Quintin Berry (L) LF

Baltimore's:

1. Nick Markakis (L) RF
2. J.J. Hardy (R) SS
3. Nate McLouth (L) LF
4. Adam Jones (R) CF
5. Chris Davis (L) DH
6. Mark Reynolds (R) 1B
7. Manny Machado (R) 3B
8. Omar Quintanilla (L) 2B
9. Taylor Teagarden (R) C

Wei-Yin Chen is taking the mound for Baltimore, his second time facing the Tigers this season. In his first start against Detroit, the 27-year-old allowed just one run on two hits over six innings on July 14.
