After coming out strong with five runs in the first inning, the Detroit Tigers still couldn't hold off the Baltimore Orioles on Sunday afternoon in a 7-5 series-ending defeat at Comerica Park.
Tigers starter Doug Fister was given a comfortable five-run lead behind first-inning home runs from Omar Infante and Jhonny Peralta, but failed to keep Baltimore hitters at bay. The lanky right-hander surrendered seven runs over his next 2.2 innings to quickly cough up his team's massive advantage. The disheartening loss officially drops him to 7-8 on the season.
Coming off losses in five of their last eight games, the Tigers will need to get things back on track Monday against the Toronto Blue Jays in the first of a three-game set. Right-handed strikeout artist Max Scherzer will get the ball for Jim Leyland's squad to open the series.
