Detroit Tigers third baseman Miguel Cabrera is back in the lineup Tuesday after having two straight days off from baseball for the first time in over a year. Taking Sunday off to rest a sore right foot ended Cabrera's streak of 158 consecutive MLB games played, and was the slugger's first game off since missing an Aug. 25, 2011 contest to be at the birth of his daughter.
The Tigers start Justin Verlander (12-7, 2.50) in the series opener at Kauffman Stadium in Kansas City. The Royals counter with Luis Mendoza (7-9, 4.26).
Lineups as follow:
Detroit Tigers (69-58)
Kansas City Royals (56-71)
