Tigers Vs. Yankees Score Update: Detroit Up 3 After 5

The Detroit Tigers and New York Yankees began a three-game series on Monday at Comerica Park and the Tigers are looking for their third win in a row. Heading into the sixth inning, the Tigers lead 5-2.

Detroit took a 1-0 lead in the second inning thanks to a solo home run by Prince Fielder. Miguel Cabrera added a solo shot of his own in the fourth to make it 2-0. Cabrera's went 454 feet.

In the fifth, the Yankees made their move, with RBI-singles from Derek Jeter and Robinson Cano tying the game up. But Detroit would answer in the bottom of the inning -- an Omar Infante single scored Alex Avila, an Austin Jackson single scored Jhonny Peralta and an Andy Dirks sac fly scored Infante to make it 5-2.

Justin Verlander has given up six hits and two runs and has struck out eight. New York starter Ivan Nova has given up eight hits and five runs and struck out five.
