Tigers Vs. White Sox Preview: Max Scherzer Looks To Close Gap On Chicago's 2-Game Lead

The Detroit Tigers have an opportunity to tie the Chicago White Sox at the top of the AL Central standings with a sweep this weekend in Detroit. They took the first step Friday, after Delmon Young's three-run double propelled his team to a 7-4 victory in the series opener.

Detroit (70-61) will start right-hander Max Scherzer (14-6, 4.13 ERA) Saturday in a game set for 7:05 p.m. He is 6-1 with a 2.75 ERA over his last eight starts.

The White Sox (72-59), losers of four of their last five games on this road trip, will throw left-hander Francisco Liriano (5-10, 5.06 ERA) against Detroit. He'll be particularly mindful of Tigers third baseman Miguel Cabrera, who is 8-for-24 with two home runs and three doubles off Liriano in his career.

The series ends Sunday night when each team sends its ace to the mound, but these clubs will face each other again Sept. 10-13 in Chicago for a four-game set.
