Tigers Vs. White Sox Preview: Justin Verlander Tries To Lead Detroit To Sweep

With a win tonight over the Chicago White Sox, the Detroit Tigers would move into a tie for first place in the American League Central, and they have reigning MVP and Cy Young Award winner Justin Verlander (12-7, 2.80 ERA) on the mound for them as they attempt to do it.

The White Sox will counter with their own ace, Chris Sale (15-5, 2.81 ERA), as they try to avoid a sweep.

Sale had one of his worst outings of the season in his last start against Detroit on July 21. He gave up 5 earned runs (tied for a season high), seven hits and four walks in seven innings in a 7-1 Chicago loss. Sale also took a loss to the Tigers in April.

Verlander pitched eight innings and struck out six in a Tigers win July 20. He is 13-10 with a 4.05 ERA in 26 career games against Chicago. He comes into this game off of his worst start in more than two seasons, allowing 8 earned runs in 5.2 innings in a lost to Kansas City last week.
