Tigers Vs. Twins: Miguel Cabrera Extends September Hitting Streak To 13 Games

Continuing his unbelievable surge to close out the 2012 regular season, Detroit Tigers MVP candidate Miguel Cabrera pushed his hitting streak to 13 games on Sunday evening against the Twins.

Cabrera smacked his 40th double of the year off Minnesota starter P.J. Walters in the bottom of the first inning to keep his September streak alive in the second game of the doubleheader. The All-Star slugger also managed to put the Tigers ahead 1-0 on the scoreboard by plating outfielder Austin Jackson in the process, good enough for his league-leading 133rd RBI of the year.

Now with nine home runs and 23 runs batted in since Sept. 1, Cabrera's case for the 2012 AL MVP continues to strengthen by the day. Currently locked into a heated battle for the AL Central with the White Sox at the moment, the Tigers very well may need every last ounce of Cabrera's offense down the stretch.
