Eager to fill a marquee weekend slot with a playoff-contending team, the Detroit Tigers' Sept. 22 game against Minnesota has officially been moved to 4:05 p.m. ET and will now be a part of FOX Saturday Baseball according to the team's director of media relations Brian Britten. FOX's contract with the league provides them with two weeks at the end of the season in which the schedule is completely dependent on which teams are in contention.
With the Tigers just one game away from the American League Central lead at a point when only a handful of weekend timeslots remain, it makes perfect sense that FOX would try to capitalize on Detroit's impending playoff chase. Throw in one of the league's top MVP candidates in Miguel Cabrera and a Cy Young favorite in Justin Verlander and the decision starts to feel like a no-brainer for television executives.
Assuming there are no hiccups in the Tigers' pitching rotation leading up to this game, 6'8" right-hander Doug Fister would be in line to take the mound to face Ron Gardenhire's Twins from Comerica Park.
