Detroit Tigers pitcher Max Scherzer (15-6, 3.93 ERA) looks to win his sixth straight start as the team opens a three-game series in Anaheim against the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim at 10:05 p.m. Friday.

Scherzer beat the Angels in a start in Detroit on Aug. 26, giving up 1 run and striking out 9 in seven innings. Scherzer is 2-1 with a 2.45 ERA in three career starts against the Angels.

The Angels start Ervin Santana (8-11, 5.32 ERA). Jered Weaver was originally scheduled to start, but an injury caused the Angels to skip him in the rotation. Santana was the losing pitcher against Scherzer on Aug. 26, giving up 4 runs in seven innings. He also lost to the Tigers on July 16, giving up 4 runs (2 earned) in six innings.

The Tigers enter the series trailing the Chicago White Sox by one game in the AL Central. The Tigers and White Sox open a four-game series in Chicago on Monday.
