Detroit Lions rookie cornerback Chris Greenwood has come off the physically unable to perform list after undergoing surgery to repair a sports hernia and the team expects him to return to the practice field this week.
Greenwood, a fifth-round pick out of Albion College, missed all of training camp, preseason, and the first six weeks of the regular season with a sports hernia. Once Greenwood returns to practice, the Lions have 21 days before they have to decide whether to add him to the roster, cut him, or place him on injured reserve. The 6'1 cornerback ran a 4.42-second 40-yard dash at the University of Michigan's pro day and impressed scouts at the East-West Shrine Game in January.
The Lions are 2-3, coming off a 26-23 overtime comeback win over the Philadelphia Eagles. They take on the NFC North-leading Chicago Bears on Monday, Oct. 22 at Soldier Field.
