The Detroit Lions released linebacker Doug Hogue and signed cornerback Justin Miller on Monday. Miller was on the active roster for the Lions' 13-7 loss to the Chicago Bears on Monday night.
Detroit selected Doug Hogue in the fifth round of the 2011 NFL Draft out of Syracuse. He had recorded two tackles on the season prior to being released and played primarily special teams.
Miller spent training camp with the Lions but was released on Aug. 31. Prior to camp Miller had not been with an NFL team since 2010. He entered the league as a second-round draft pick of the New York Jets out of Clemson in 2005. In his second season, in 2006, Miller made the Pro Bowl as the kick returner for the AFC. Miller saw most of his action on defense in his first two seasons in the league, being used almost exclusively as a kick returner after 2006.
