Lions general manager Martin Mayhew said that the team has no update yet on the status of running back Jahvid Best, and that they will provide more information at the appropriate time. Best has spent the season on the physically unable to perform list, and must be activated by Tuesday, Nov. 6th. If Best can't practice by then, he will have to be placed on injured reserve, and would miss the rest of the season.
Best has not played since Week 6 of the 2011 season, when he suffered a concussion against the San Francisco 49ers. The Lions put best on the PUP list to start the season, hoping he would be able to come back at some point. In order to resume contact, Best will have to be given clearance by an independent team of neurologists.
Best was drafted with the 30th overall pick by the Lions in 2010, and can be an electric playmaker with the ball in his hands. Unfortunately for Best and the Lions, it's been a long time since he's been able to step onto the field. Best also suffered from concussion issues while playing in college at Cal.
