Martin Mayhew talks about new Lions WR Mike Thomas

Detroit Lions general manager Martin Mayhew discusses the Lions trade for wide receiver Mike Thomas.

Detroit Lions general manager Martin Mayhew addressed the media on Thursday to discuss the team's trade for wide receiver Mike Thomas.

Mayhew said Thomas adds to their veteran depth and is a versatile player. Mayhew said of Thomas, "I think he has a lot of talent, a lot of skill, been a very productive guy in his career." He went on to say he imagines Thomas will serve as a utility player for the Lions as well as a special teams player.

Mayhew wouldn't speculate on if Thomas would lineup in the backfield to serve in some the roles that Jahvid Best brought to the Lions offense.

The Lions traded a 2014 fifth-round draft to the Jacksonville Jaguars for Thomas. In seven games for the Jags, Thomas caught 13 passes for 80 yards. He also returned eight punts for 56 yards. Over his career he has 171 receptions for 1,768 yards and six touchdowns.
