Detroit Lions star wide receiver Calvin Johnson leads the NFL with 1,257 receiving yards through Week 12, and his quarterback is tops in the NFL with 3,429 passing yards, but Megatron is currently in third among NFC wide receivers for Pro Bowl votes received. Dave Birkett of the Detroit Free Press points out that Victor Cruz of the New York Giants and Brandon Marshall of the Chicago Bears are the only two wideouts who have received more votes than Johnson to-date.
Johnson is tops in the NFC with a 114.3 yards-per-game average and a whopping 27 plays for 20+ yards, but Brandon Marshall has been targeted more often (124 targets to Johnson's 123) and has come away with more catches (81 grabs, compared to 73 for Megatron). Cruz has been far less impressive than both guys, catching just 63 passes for 779 yards and producing only seven plays of 20+ yards, but he plays in the largest market and is getting a bump from his big streak of quality performances last season.
Meanwhile, Lions' defensive tackle Ndamukong Suh ranks currently ranks fourth in votes received for NFC defensive tackles. Henry Melton of the Chicago Bears, Dwan Edwards of the Carolina Panthers and Justin Smith of the San Francisco 49ers are the only players in the conference who have received more fan support.
Voting ends on Dec. 17.
