Detroit Lions safety Ricardo Silva has earned the nickname "Spider-Man" from defensive coordinator Gunther Cunningham as he's described as being "all arms and legs," reported Justin Rogers of Mlive.com.
Silva was signed by the Lions as an undrafted free agent in 2011 but was waived by the team earlier this season. After he cleared waivers, Silva returned to Detroit on the team's practice squad and was activated for the first time this season against Minnesota in Week 4. Silva made his second start versus Seattle last Sunday and has nine tackles and one interception this season.
Safety Amari Spievey has been ruled out for the game versus the Jaguars this week which will mean more playing time for Silva this Sunday.
Cunningham said Silva is one of the biggest surprises he's had as a coach as he's been impressed by his relentless work ethic.
Regarding his nickname, Silva said: "I'll take that. I'll be a superhero."
